(Not so) Remarkable Evidence

Here at LanternTorch.com, we’ve been tracking the lead up to the U.S. war against Iran for the past two years. There are many who still seem either oblivious to our warnings or simply do not believe it to be possible. Those who are apathetic fail to realize that such a war will affect nearly every person in every part of the world. Americans, in particular, should be gravely concerned for their own safety. I know I am.

The Bush administration has now presented their “evidence” that Iran is supplying weapons to Shi’a insurgents inside of Iraq. To be blunt, their evidence included some weapons laid carefully on a table. That is their proof. Iranian weapons were found inside of Iraq; therefore, the Iranian government is supplying those weapons to insurgents. It doesn’t take a Vulcan to realize: “Their conclusions are illogical.”

1. Iraq and Iran are allies and have a military agreement. The Iraqi government (also an ally of the U.S.) could be receiving weapons from Iran.

2. The Iraqi government itself is predominantly Shi’a.

3. The Mahdi Army, supposedly the leading Shi’a insurgent group, is led by Muqtada al-Sadr, who himself is part of the Iraqi government.

4. Even if Iranians crossed the border and sold weapons to Iraqis, that doesn’t mean that the Iranian government supported or even knows about it.

5. Arms dealers sell weapons to everyone. If you don’t believe, do the research…or better yet, go try to buy a gun from Israel. You won’t have to look very hard because they’re sold all over the world. The same is undoubtedly true of Iranian weapons. Arms dealers specialize in selling arms all over the world. That’s why they’re so successful. They pit one group of people against another and then sell weapons to both sides.

6. The biggest arms dealing country is the United States. Most of the weapons used by Iraq against Iran in the Iran-Iraq War and against Saddam’s own people were from the U.S.

7. The U.S. sold weapons to Iran during the same war.

8. The U.S. probably already has Iranian-made weapons. I bet you can even buy them on the streets of Detroit, Philadelphia, or any other major city.

9. There is more likelihood of an American arms dealer selling Iranian weapons to Iraqi insurgents than there is of the Iranian government doing so.

I didn’t buy the Bush administration’s claims about Iraq before the Iraq war. One of Iraq’s own nuclear scientists wrote a book proving that they had no weapons of mass destruction back in 1998 and that their entire nuclear program was in shambles. Still, many Americans believed Bush and his cronies, which is amazing seeing as how they’re horrible liars. This time, it will take much more than a few RPG’s with Iranian stamps on them to convince the American public…at least I hope so.
