The word on the street is that Steve Jobs of Apple made an offer to the $100 laptop project (http://www.lanterntorch.org/content/view/151/1/) that they couldn’t refuse; that is, Mac OS X free of charge.

They said no, stating that they intended to use an operating system that is “completely open source.” No room for half-steppin’.
