Books on my mind…

Monday, November 28th, 2005

I am working on a book review for Muslim Writers Society on Islam and Religious Pluralism by Ayatullah Murtadha Mutahhari. I think it’s a must read. It answered almost all of my questions on the ultimate fate of Muslims, non-Muslims, atheists, people of the book, etc.
I’ve already started on another book. The […]

Specialized Ijtihad

Friday, November 25th, 2005

Here is an interesting recommendation from the late Ayatullah Murtadha Mutahhari that I feel is worth repeating:
“Here I have a recommendation which could be most useful for the advancement and development of our fiqh. It was previously put forward by the late Shaykh `Abd alKarim alYazdi, and I am here only reiterating his proposal.
“He […]

Iran’s Defense of Reason

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

The Islamic Republic of Iran has released a well-written, well articulated document outlining their rights to use peaceful nuclear energy and their position on weapons of mass destruction.
I have republished it in full at Muslim Message.
Some of the most important points that I noticed include:
“The first is that Iran has vast oil and gas resources […]

The stuff people are made of…

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

RIF is tomorrow. I just got the books, and I wanted to setup this afternoon. I had purchased cheap blue table cloths to cover the tables (you know to make it look nicer), but I forgot them at home. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow morning to setup. I have the […]

Football Crazy Town

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

As you might know, we live in Indianapolis, and the Colts are currently 9-0. Things are really starting to heat up in this city. They play Cincinnati this weekend. It is, perhaps the first of several serious playoff contenders that they will play in the second half of the season.
You know, I […]

Excited about Mactel

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

I admit that I am very excited about the new Intel-based Macs that Apple plans to release next year. There is talk that the newest iBook will be released as early as January 2006 WITH the new Intel architecture.
So, you might ask, am I excited because I want to run OS X on my […]

No thanks to Mac OS X

Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

The word on the street is that Steve Jobs of Apple made an offer to the $100 laptop project (http://www.lanterntorch.org/content/view/151/1/) that they couldn’t refuse; that is, Mac OS X free of charge.
They said no, stating that they intended to use an operating system that is “completely open source.” No room for half-steppin’.

The Fallujah Massacre, One Year Later

Saturday, November 12th, 2005

One year ago this month, the US and its allies began the brutal campaign against Fallujah, Iraq, where men, women, and children were viciously executed and slaughtered.
“The city was placed ‘under a strict night-time shoot-to-kill curfew’ with ‘anyone spotted in the soldiers’ night vision sights … shot’ (Times, 12 Nov 04); male refugees were prevented […]

Qur’an Inspires Modern Science

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

Follow-up from my previous post:
“To many thinkers religion is alien to science. Science simply means a specialized branch of knowledge. In Arabic it is called ‘Ilm. A scientist in Arabic is called an ‘Alim. The west is wrong in separating Science from Religion. The great universal Muslim scientists about thousand years […]

Intelligent Design - Unintelligent Teaching

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

As you might have heard by now, the Board of Education in Kansas voted to allow the teaching of alternatives to evolution in schools. The wording implies that teachers should, in addition to teaching evolution, also teach that some schools of thinking have found evidence that there is “design and purpose” to every scientific […]
