Why do we still get these with every book we order? I’ve heard rumors that some librarians still use them for their shelf lists. To me, it seems like an awful waste of a good tree.

Because your library is paying for them. Probably saves a few cents per book to drop them. Probably enough to add one book to every 100 or so you order. Your probably the first to question it. Now do something about it.
